Match Reports

We now have a 'roving reporter' to give you match reports!

Saturday 30th April - League Play Off v 1st Houston
With the Easter break finished, it was great excitement as the league was to be decided in a play off game against the 1st Houston - who defeated us on the opening day of the season.

We got off to a great start when Daniel powered home a great shot in the opening minute. Both teams looked a bit nervy early on and there were a lot of chances at both ends. The game was very even and the scoreline of 2-2 at the interval reflected this.

The boys had a fantastic start to the second half when Sean scored an amazing goal just after the restart ! This seemed to give us a bit more confidence and we went to to dominate the game after that. Further strikes from Sean and Daniel made the result 7-3 to the 44th and there was great cheer when Blair went forward to collect the shield.

Well done to all the team for some great displays this season.

Knockout Cup report
The 44th entered two teams for this competition and both played well throughout the afternoon.

The A team were slightly stronger and only lost 1 match (2-0) to the 167 during the group stages.

The B team needed a victory in their final match against Houston to have any chance of making the semi finals and despite some great goals from Jordan and Sonny, the score of 3-3 wasn't quite enough.

In the semi final the A team had a comfortable 3-0 win against Erskine and this set a rematch against the 167 in the final. The 167 raced into a 2-0 lead but two great strikes from Daniel took the match into extra time (golden goal).

The 44th were looking the more likely to score but a breakaway and goal from the 167 meant the league and Cup double wasn't to be this year.

A great effort from the team and very unfortunate not to win.

Finally a big thanks to all the parents who turned out to support the boys this weekend.

Looking forward to next season !!

Saturday 19th March v 167A (Power League)

Three teams are tied at the top of the league and this was the first of the play off games.

The 167A made a fantastic start to the match and took an early 3-0 after some slack defending by our team but the boys fought their way back into the match and the scores were soon tied at 4 -4.

Our passing started to improve and goals from Sean, Daniel and Mark gave us a bit of breathing space. The 167 didn't give up and they scored 3 quick goals to tie the match at 7-7 with 5 minutes to go.

A great solo goal from Daniel put us ahead again and last minute strikes from Sean and Mark made the final score 10-7. A very close game today!!

Today's team - Blair, Thomas, Jaz, Mark, Sean, Sam and Daniel.

Man of the match today was Blair who made some vital saves at key points in the game.

Saturday 13th February v 167B

Another cold and rainy morning at the Power League but the pitch was in perfect condition for this mornings match against the 167B.

Our team dominated most of the early play and a couple of early goals from Daniel gave us some early breathing space. The 167 got a couple of goals before half time before their on loan signing (Sean) hit a couple of good strikes to keep the score to 4-2 at the break.

In the second half our passing was excellent and we were able to score a further 6 goals . The best moment was when Logan thought he was going down injured but he managed to make an immediate recovery when he saw his shot going in off the post!

The 167 scored some late goals to make the final score 10-8 for the 44th.

Man of the match today was Daniel for his all round play but he will need to practice his penalty kick taking if he's going to take one next week!

Saturday 30th January v 1st Erskine

This was the only fixture to survive the bad weather but the pitch at the Power League was in good condition and all the boys were all glad the game went ahead as planned.

Just like our last two matches the first half was a fairly tight affair and it took a good strike from Daniel midway through the first half to open the scoring. The Erskine team were playing well and a couple of good goals made it 3-2 at the break - only some good defending by Thomas and some great saves from Blair kept the score down.

In the second half our passing was much better and some fine finishing from Sean resulted in a lot of goals being scored during the last 10 minutes.

The goal of the game went to Mark for some great close control and a powerful low shot into the corner of the net.

Final score was 10-4 to the 44th.

Goals scored today came from Sean (6), Daniel (2) and Mark (2).

Man of the match today had to be Sean for his excellent finishing in front of goal.

Saturday 23rd January v 1st Elderslie

Today's match saw Logan and Stuart make their league debuts.

The pitch at Houston was very muddy this morning so conditions were always going to be tricky. Jaz even managed to get himself extremely muddy before the game even started! From kick off both the goalkeepers were playing very well and the first goal was always going to be crucial. Midway through the first half a great passing move by the 44th ended with Mark firing a low shot into the corner of the net.

Both teams had lots of chances to score and 3 fine reflex saves from the Elderslie goalie denied Mark doubling our lead. It seemed to be heading for a 1-0 finish but a fine tackle and strike from Daniel in the last minute secured a 2-0 for the boys.

Next week we play Erskine at the Power League in Paisley.

Man of the match today was Mark for his goal and effort in midfield.

16th January v 24th Paisley

This was our first game at the Power League in Paisley and the pitch was in great condition even though it was -3 degrees and snowing!

Thomas was up early this week so we had a full team to choose from!

The first half was very close and only a great strike from Sean separated the teams at half time.

The second half was much more open and there were lots of goals near the end when the players were tiring. Thankfully most of the goals were for us and some great goalkeeping from Blair kept the 24th out.

Goals from Sean (3), Jordan (2) Sam (2) and Mark meant a 8-3 win for the 44!

Man of the match today was Sean for his all round play

8th January v 167

The team were playing slightly uphill during the first half and struggled to get an early grip on the game and the 167 deservedly took the lead midway through the first half. After that wake up call the boys got back in the game and Shaun equalised from the penalty spot after Mark was pulled down as he was about to shoot.

A great goal after the break put us 3-1 ahead and the team kept on top during the second half although the 167 missed several good opportunities to get back in the match. Shaun scored a hat-trick and Mark scored the other 2 .

Man of the match today - Sonny for some great defending.

12th December- v 1st Houston

The boys lost their first game of the league season today going down 4-2 to 1st Houston. After losing 2 poor goals to go 2-0 down the boys got back in the game with a great strike from Daniel.

We had several good chances to draw level but Houston scored again midway through the second half to make it 3-1. Once again Daniel scored a good goal to make it 3-2 but a late goal from Houston unfortunately meant a 4-2 defeat for the boys.

Next game is against the 167 after the holiday period

Man of the match today - Blair for some excellent goalkeeping.
