Match Reports

Our 'roving reporter' has been out and about to give you match reports!

Saturday 22nd April 2017

44A 12v4 1st Houston

This was the final fixture for the purple team in the 2016/17 league programme and a point would be good enough to secure the league title for the third consecutive season!

The boys started the game really well and our sharp passing was causing the Houston defence a lot of problems. An early hat trick from Oliver got us off to the perfect start and further strikes from Sonny and Adam gave us a 6-0 lead.  Just before halftime Houston took advantage of a defensive mistake to make the halftime score 6-1.

Into the second half and it was more of the same with the purple team well in control. Some fine goalkeeping and defending from Saul and Thomas  made sure Houston didn't get back into the game and a couple of late strikes from Mark helped the team to a 12-4 victory.

The boys received medals at the end but the presentation of the League shield will be at our display on 5th May 2017.

Today's men of the match - Saul, Thomas, Sonny, Mark, Scott, Oliver and Adam

Our roving reporter has been on a break - but got back in time for the final game of the season!

Saturday 11th March 2017

44A 8v4 1st Elderslie

Heavy rain overnight resulted in the pitch being extremely muddy and both teams found passing quite difficult today.

Elderslie started brightly and a great move resulted in them taking the lead in the 6th minute. The Purple team fought back well after the early setback and goals from Adam and Oliver turned the game around. Just before halftime Thomas fired in 2 excellent long range shots to make the halftime score 4-1 for the 44th.

In the second half, Elderslie came more into the game and just after a great strike from Scott they managed  to narrow the score to 6-4 with only 5 minutes to go. The purple team finished strongly though and Adam added 2 more goals to get his first hat trick for the purple team.

Final score was 8-4 for the 44th and a win next week could secure the league title for the 3rd year in a row.

Man of the match today was Adam even though he gave away a penalty!

Saturday 18 February 2017

44A 7v3 1st Houston A

The purple team made a good start to the game and early goals from Mark and Sonny put the A team in front. Sonny had to be replaced following a knock and this allowed Houston to come more into the game.

A goal at either end looked like the halftime score would be 3-1 but two defensive mistakes allowed Houston to fire past Elliot and level the match just before the break.

This seemed to give the team a wake up call and an early goal from Mark and a deflected corner from Oliver restored our two goal lead. Scott replaced Thomas who was hurt in a tackle but the team kept their shape well and two late strikes from Sonny and Mark made the final score 7-3 for the Purple team.

Man of the match today was Mark for his effort in midfield- particularly when Sonny and Thomas were off injured

1st Erskine A v 44B

Unfortunately, Erskine could not raise a team this week - so all 3 points go to the 44B team.

44A v 1st Elderslie

Unfortunately, Elderslie could not raise a team this week - so all 3 points go to the 44.

Saturday 21 January 2017

44A 5 v 0 44B

Today's match was played at the Power League with the pitch in great condition for such a frosty morning.

The red team had a really good start to the game and nearly took an early lead when a shot from Finlay came back off the post. Shortly after that a speculative shot from Sonny slipped out of Kyle's grasp and just over the line to put the Purple team in front. Just before half time goals from Mark and Adam gave the Purples a 3-0 halftime lead.

At the start of the second half a good chance for Jaz went just wide but the Red team were now missing Alexander's presence at the back and this allowed the Purples to gain control of the game. A further 2 goals made the full time score 5-0 for the 44A

Man of the match today was Thomas for his all round play

Saturday 14 January 2017

44B 4 v 10 1st Houston A

The 44th Glasgow B team started the game well against 1st Houston A, taking an early lead with a good goal by Logan.  Houston quickly brought the game back to 1-1.

The B teams pace slowed as the game progressed and Houston took full advantage. Half time the score was 2-4 to Houston with a goal from Jazz just before the whistle for half time.

Houston piled on the pressure in the second half but even with another goal from Jaz and one from Arren, it still wasn't enough to hold back a strong Houston Team.  Final score was 10-4 to 1st Houston A.

Man of the Match today was  Arren for his all round play and second half goal.

Saturday 7 January 2017

44A 15 v 7 1st Houston B

This was our first game back after the Christmas holidays and it was good to have Thomas back in defence for today's match.

We got off to a great start and a lovely pass from Oliver saw Sonny fire home from close range. Some good passing resulted in a number of early opportunities and Oliver scored a further 2 goals to put the 44th three up after 10 mins. After that the game was fairly even and Houston came back into the match with a couple of good goals - only some fine goalkeeping from Elliot kept us ahead at the break.

Into the second half and we managed to take control of the game again and goals from Mark (6 today) and Sonny gave us a comfortable lead. Our best goal was a last minute debut goal for Adam who hit a shot high into the net to make the final score 15 - 7 for the 44th.

Our final match in phase 1 will be a derby match against the 44B (red team) at Power League.

Man of the match today was Oliver for his great first half performance in his new boots.

Saturday 10 December 2016

44B 11 v 1 1st Elderslie

Before today's game neither of the teams had managed to win a game so this was a great opportunity for the B team to try and get some points on the board.

The B team started brightly and some early goals from Ben and Logan settled the team down. Kyle was having a quiet time in goals but a good effort from Elderslie got them back in the game. Towards the end of the second half, the B team pushed forward and Logan scored 6 of our 11 goals. A fantastic performance from all today's players - Kyle, Shawn, Alexander, Arren, Finlay, Logan and Ben .

This will be the last match until after the Christmas holidays - let's hope we can get some more wins in the New Year.

Man of the match today was Logan for his great play up front.

44A 10 v 12 1st Erskine B

The team had to change formation today as Thomas wasn't able to play and this resulted in a poor start to the game.

A hand ball from Sonny (playing in defence today) gave Erskine a chance to score from the penalty spot but their effort just went wide of the post. This gave Erskine a boost and they soon took a 2-0 lead but goals from Mark (2) and Scott managed to get us back in front.

After that it was 'end to end' stuff with lots of great play and plenty of chances at both ends - especially the move leading up to the third of Olivers 4 goals - this one curling high into the top corner.

The score was 9-9 with 5 mins to play but Erskine finished the stronger of the two teams and the final score was 12-10 to Erskine.

Next game for the Purple team will be in early January.

Man of the match today was Mark who kept us the game during a difficult second half.

Saturday 12 November 2016

44B 4 v 5 1st Houston B

It was a frosty start to today's match with both teams taking some time to settle into the game. The 44th took an early lead when a shot from a Jaz took a cruel deflection off one of the Houston defenders into the bottom corner. Houston came right back into the game and scored 3 quick goals before half time. Shawn took over in goals for the second half and this allowed Logan to push up the park to support Ben in attack.

Mr MacMillan and Mr Rutherford's tactics seemed to be working as we scored 3 goals to level at 4-4 with 7 minutes left.

Unfortunately some slack defending allowed Houston to score a late winner - final score was 5-4 to Houston.

Man of the match today was Shawn for his excellent second half performance.

44A 8 v 5 1st Houston A

The first half was very tight and both defences were on top of their game. Midway through the half Scott replaced Sonny who got hurt in a tackle. Shorty after that Oliver pounced on a mistake in the Houston defence to curl a shot into the bottom corner. This gave our team a boost and a couple of great strikes from Mark made it 3-0 at the break.

Into he second half and the 44 continued to pile on the pressure and further goals from Sonny, Scott and Oliver put us 6-1 up.

Towards the end of the game Houston game back into the game and only some great goalkeeping from Elliot kept the deficit to 7-5 but a long range effort from Mark in the final minute made the final score 8-5 for the 44th.

Man of the match today was Thomas for his tackling and impressive passing.

Saturday 5 November 2016

44A 10 v 5 1st Erskine A

The first game of the session saw Elliot and Scott make their debuts and this was a really close and exciting game for the spectators with the outcome not being decided until the final 5 minutes.

The 44 opened the scoring midway through the first half when Sonny ran to to a good pass from Mark to fire the ball home. Shortly after we went two up following a great solo effort from Mark.

Erskine then scored a penalty then two quick goals to take a 3-2 lead but another goal from Sonny levelled things at the break. The match remained very evenly balanced until the final few minutes when goals from Thomas. Oliver,Sonny and Mark gave us a 10 - 5 win.

Overall a good performance to get the season underway.

Man of the match today was Mark for his all round play.

44B 1 v 4 1st Houston A

Shawn volunteered to play in goals this morning due to Kyle's absence and this was going to be a busy morning for him as Houston are always one of the strongest teams in the league.

Houston had most of the early chances and midway through the first half they took the lead with a low shot into the corner. Just before half time we got a rare chance from a free kick and Jaz scored with a great effort that went in off the post.

Some great goalkeeping from Shawn kept the score level at the break.

Just after half time Houston took the lead again with a well worked goal. Jaz had another chance to level the score from another free kick but this time his effort was narrowly deflected for a corner.

Both Arren and Finlay had chances to score but they couldn't get their efforts on target. Two very late goals made the final score 4-1 but the B team put up a great fight in their opening match.

Man of the match today was Jaz for his excellent tackling in midfield.
